Morgantown, WV (30 October) – Biometric Services International (BSI) today announced the availability of its latest update of published and emerging biometric standards. Fifteen new and/or updated standards were published since the last update issued in April 2008, bringing the total number of published standards to seventy-nine (79). The report details these, along with an additional 70+ emerging standards currently under consideration.
Numerous application areas will see improvement in functionality because of the newly published biometric standards. Interoperability testing of biometric systems will improve as a result of a new ISO standard specifying how to conduct such tests; a new National Information Exchange Model enterprise-wide exchange standard better enables jurisdictions to share critical information; new ICAO visa standards define the specifications for original, full size visas (Format A) and the newer smaller size visa (Format B) and machine readable travel documents and a new ANSI/INCITS standard defines the framework for deploying identity assurance capabilities that can be accessed using services-based frameworks (e.g. web services). Information about all the newly published standards can be found in the Summary of Published and Emerging Biometrics Standards reports at www.biometricsinternational.org and www.nationalbiometric.org.
