Abstract:
This presentation will discuss biometrics research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) within the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate.
 
Biography:
Christopher (Chris) Miles is a Biometrics Program Manager with the Human Factors and Behavior Sciences Division of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Directorate for Science and Technology. Mr. Miles is Co-Chair for the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Subcommittee on Biometrics & Identity Management. Mr. Miles received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering from George Mason University and previously worked for the Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice where he managed the biometric, sensor and surveillance, and firearm technology portfolios. He managed biometric technologies for wireless and remote identification, booking & background checks, and access & movement control within facilities; sensor technologies for video & through-the-wall surveillance, concealed weapons detection, license plate recognition, & thermal imaging; and firearm technologies for ballistics imaging, “smart gun,”& gunshot detection. Prior to NIJ, he worked for in support of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s display technology program and the U.S. Army Night Vision Laboratory on thermal targeting systems.
